First full day at work for over 6 years : )

I just started my training for a new job yesterday. I was super tired when I got to work. The night before I had headed out with a friend to play at Dusk Till Dawn Poker Room at Nottingham. We soon got bored of that and headed to the G Casino Poker Room at Sheffield. I think I managed to get in around 2:45am then played a session online until 3:20am. I ended up going to sleep at 4am and had to get up at 7:30am. It made it a tough first day training with new colleagues, that’s for sure!

Last year I started to play live and have tracked the sessions. So far I have played 70 sessions. I hoped for a bigger win rate but I guess it is hard to do all the things we do online against people who don’t like to fold anything. Took me a few sessions to adapt but I think I have the hang of these live people now.

I played a few online sessions in the last two days. Resulted in me losing £58.25p (£50 for an MTT entry). I prefer to play live than online now. I like online for the ease and comfort factors but what fun is it when everybody plays such a tight game. Basically your all waiting for either a donk to sit at your table or to be on the better side of a cooler. Not too apealing to me.

Happy New Year :)

Last two weeks my heads been emerged within the live games. Few weeks back I played with a bunch of snooker players again. They all came up for some tournament, I don’t recall which as I struggle to follow snooker unless it’s the world championships. Steve Davis, Stephen Hendry, Mark Williams, John Higgins, Ken Doherty and a player who is not that well known. His name was Scott if I remember correctly and he played a very solid game. Definitely the best out of all of them. Sorry Scott, couldn’t remember your second name.

I wish you all an excellent 2012, I trust you have all enjoyed the holiday period.

My New Years Resolutions:
Concentrate on my career,
Continue to eat healthy food & get back into cardio and weights pretty much full time.

Belated 'Trick or Treat' & Huge Cooler Pot Thoughts

Few Pics From the cardroom on Halloween

06/11/11 - Tough Grinding Session
I slowly turned £40 into £259 over the space of 3-4 hours then this hand took place:

All table limps I’m utg with TT 10 handed.
Flop comes:
Td-8c-6d
I check call £7 after asking this guy how much he was playing(£224).
My thinking is he has either air/straight draw or flush draw. Villan is Chinese player who can play good but will commit to a made hand not thinking of folding. Eg limped pot 10 handed, he would stack off with 2s3s fairly deep on Xs-Xs-Xs-Xc-Xd.

We go to the turn heads up and the turn is 8s giving us:
Td-8c-6d-8s
Check, Check.

River is the 4d giving is a final board of:
Td-8c-6d-8s-4d
I lead for £27, a slight overbet into the pot. My thinking here is he ships higher flush draw and raises other hands as a bluff a a small % of the time.
I get raised £58 a bet of £85 total on the river. I think a very small % of the time he has Quads and here his range is:
T8/68/84/66/44/79/57 and all the flushes.
88.
I can narrow the range down somewhat as he is raising a diamond. So now we put the range down to:
T8/68/66/44/AdXd/KdXd (Ahead of).
88(Behind).
So we beat maybe 6 hands that raise but defiantly 5 hands with the action on this hand up until the river lead by me. Were behind one hand which is very rare to see in this spot.

08/11/11 - Tesco Fuel Station
I filled my car up today after driving around on almost fumes for a few days. My car holds about 60-65 litres of fuel from a bone dry tank. I fuelled up 59.63 Litres of Diesel @ 137.9p Per Litre for £82.23p.
I had a coupon for 5p off a litre, so I saved £2.95p bringing my fuel bill down to £79.28p. Not much change from a ton.

I’m saving up for a smaller more economical car, at the moment I’m driving a 1905cc Turbo Diesel. Thinking of a Citroën C1. Bog standard I think the front of the car looks nice but the rear looks awful. I really don’t care anyway, but just to show you, the appearance of anything can be changed.

Degenerate or Machine?

Thursday night/Friday morning 10 hour session at the card room, 3 hours sleep, work then travel to Oxford, get four hours of patchy sleep. Wake up and travel to London Saturday for a wedding which surprisingly I enjoyed, helped being with a really beautiful girl though. I travel back to Oxford at night and get 6 hours of sleep. Sunday I knocked in an 11 hour sleep session : )
Monday travel back from Oxford to Derbyshire, home at 2:30pm, clean car, eat, shower then head to the card room for a 16 hour session. Get home at 12:30pm, smash two burgers down the hatch then sleep for 2 hours. Wake up then off to work, sleep for 1 hour.

Hello my name is Mat and I am a degenerate, or is that a machine ; )

£1/£1 Back Room Game,Ruling Please

Re-Post from a post I made at twoplustwo.com

Hi people, thought I would ask a question for the more experienced live
pros:

About me. I used to play online as a $400nl pro for 5 years,
2005-2010 and I have maybe around 100-150 hours at live cash lifetime, so I have
experience but wouldn’t say I’m an experienced live player by any
means.

So last night I had been playing live at my local casino in a GBP
£1/£1 game. After 11 hours the table broke and we moved into the back room where
a self dealt game continued. One person who was not playing dealt the game, on
the 7th hand this occurred:

I raise UTG to £4, four handed with AQ and
BTTN and SB call.
Flop is:

9d-5c-7h (Pot £13)

We all check and
the turn comes:

9d-5c-7h-6d (Pot £13)

Checked to the BTTN who bets
£7, SB calls and I muck. Turn comes:

9d-5c-7h-6d-7d (Pot £27)

SB
bets £15.
After about 30 seconds, BTTN announces, “I don’t care if you have
the straight I’m all in for £22”

Dealer says £7 more to call, SB then
tables over his hand:

9c-9s

Then confidently announces full house.
Dealer says you need to put in £7 more.
About 30 seconds later the BTTN
tables his hand:

Ac7c

Slamming it down and negatively announcing,
“fuking trips” Then he goes into a rage about how it’s his pot as the SB didn’t
call the last £7 so he is taking the pot.

After a brief stating of
somewhat ruling(which I didn’t agree with), SB’s hand is declared dead and the
pot is awarded to the BTTN.

I don’t know this guy, he got unlucky all
night and played good and spoke broken English. I think he was Austrian. I’m
feeling a bit in disbelief about the ruling on the hand and how horrible it was
to have squabbling in a pot without a house dealer.
Floor re-affirms the
ruling given and the pot is awarded to the BTTN. I quit the game and state I
don’t wish to play in a game with such shaky rulings and squabbling at the
table.
After the table breaks.

My thoughts are, who doesn’t call 3rd
nuts for 7 BB’s more into a 64 BB pot! The guy confidently announced his hand
with authority, I thought he was a live noob and just thought he didn’t need to
put the last £7 in as the pot was his, and he didn’t even get more than a minute
to put his 7 blind in.
To me he called when announcing his hand and any
decent floor person would make that decision, but what do I know….as said and I
washed up online pro with not much live experience.

Sorry for such a long
winded post and good luck to you all.
